Spring Training

I can’t believe that I’m a little over a month into my program! Time has flown down here with March quickly approaching. There is so many things that I’ve done in Disney but what I just realized is that I haven’t left the Disney bubble since starting my job! However, today I finally got to venture out into Florida where I journeyed over to Lakeland to watch my home baseball team in a Spring Training game.

My family is in town for a long weekend and instead of going to the parks they decided that we should try something we’ve never done before. Located 45 minutes outside the Walt Disney World resort, Joker Marchant Stadium is host to our home baseball team the Detroit Tigers for their Spring Training. Along with 12 other MLB teams, the Tigers are apart of the Grapefruit League where they play the other teams that train in the state during their training season. We were lucky enough that they were playing in Lakeland while my family was visiting so that we could catch a game!

We had amazing seats right behind the plate, but still in the shade. Since it is a Spring Training field, the stadium is a bit smaller like a minor-leagues would be, but it’s nice because you are closer to the action. Today’s game they played the Pittsburg Pirates and after an exciting game the Tigers ended up tying with the Pirates 8-8, and since this is a Spring Training game this meant that they didn’t have to go into extra innings.

I had an amazing time venturing out and doing something new, especially with my family. We are big baseball people so it was nice to see the Tigers train for their upcoming season. We also had my Aunt Shann come up and surprise us from Tampa so that was an added bonus to our day.

I highly recommend to any baseball fans doing the program to venture out to one of the many stadiums in the state to catch a game! Me and my friend Caroline have tickets to see the Braves play the Tigers at their stadium at ESPN Wide World of Sports at Disney, so if you are not able to go to any of the other stadiums you always have the option of catching some Spring Training on Disney Property.
